conventions of opening sequences

Conventions of opening sequences

The main thing of an opening sequence is that it will need the movie title. This is so people will know what they have come to watch, music is also key when talking about an opening sequence as it will show what genre the film is as well as this it can build up tension and the atmosphere for the first scene.

Another thing that will appear on a title sequence is who is in the film, the actors/actresses will be named as well as the directors and other members of the cast. In addition it will give the names of the production company's this would normally appear at the beginning of the title sequence.

Some parts of the title sequence would be focus on the background making sure it will be suitable for the type of film and making sure that it fits in to the genre for example the background that is here shows a man falling from a building shows that the film will include violence. Also the fact that he is in a suit shows that it could be quite an important man so this means that it could mean a good plot line.

Camera work is also used to show the some of the detail within the movie so the audience can notice what is going on and helps build up about what genre the film is going to be and also gives an insight to the film. the camera angles could also help identify who the protagonist and antagonist is with the use of high angle and low angle shots.

  1. General Feedback – put titles for all images and write about what you have learnt from any links or films you have added otherwise there is no evidence you have learnt anything from them.
Overall Feedback – Well done on your Tarantino pastiche – excellent work. However, very little evidence of using new media – this is currently a strong ‘C’ grade. To get a well deserved ‘B’ you would need to use Prezi/soundcloud/Pinterest/Linoit?tumblr/flicker/ etc to show you can use many forms of media. Your blog looks great but you aren’t pushing new media to it’s full capability. Also, you are behind on your posts, see me if you want a full break down of the posts that need to be done. Let me know as soon as you have made the alterations below and I will re-grade you.
    Post Feedback
Genre- first paragraph, iconography definition wrong. Read through what you have written in this post as some grammar and singular and plural issues and spelling issues 9especially capital letters at the start of a sentence). This is continuous throughout your blog and should not be the case for A Level students. Do read through what you have written after you have written it – it would really help strengthen your work. You get marked down grammar and spelling issues.
Sub genre – can you make your sub genre spider diagram larger so it is easier to read?
Missing – POST ON HOW GENRE CHANGES OVER TIME. See Western handout given – Stefano has a copy if you need one.

Hybrid Genre – not more popular as more people would hear about them so much as that more people would be interested because there are more themes in a hybrid genre and therefore this would target a wider audience.

Comprehending time – how do the images you have used relate to this? Write about them.

3 Act Structure – add diagram/graph I used showing this. Otherwise – excellent work

Audience – read 1st sentence – it makes no sense. Finish off the different types of audience – see collect work from teachers for PPT on this.

Missing post on representation of women – also representation is more than this – age, race, age, class/status etc – all this can be discussed in relation to Liam Neeson. It’s really important you understand the many dimensions involved in representation as this is part of your exam – finish this and see me when it is done.

    Missing – post on synergy
Independent vs Hollywood – see resources in ‘Collect work’ more on this please. Research the production company ‘Working Title’ how does what they produce differ to Colombia?

Log Line – isn’t at the beginning of a film it is a short two sentence summary of a film that is used on posters, film review pages, back of DVD’s etc.
Conventions of Opening sequences – see resources in ‘collect work’ this is currently not strong enough – really important to understand the conventions as if you don’t then the opening sequence you will make won’t be as strong as it should/could be.
I want to see a list of the order you would expect to see the credits appear in (wikipedia credit openings)

Missing – 3 textual analysis’s of openinbg sequences (2 on Thriller)
